Anthony "Tony" Olofson

August 8, 1966 — February 8, 2021

Tony was born on August 8, 1966 at Community Memorial Hospital Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Dennis and Sandra (Sandquist) Olofson. He attended grade schools in Omaha and Junior High in Papillion before the family moved to Minden Iowa in January 1981. He graduated from Tri Center High School in May 1984 and enlisted in Navy later that year as E5 Electronics Tech. After completing training at Great Lakes Training Center, he was stationed at Patuxent Maryland. In 1994, he drove to Belize with his father and family friend Pat Hunke-his journal of that week long trip with no cell phone or internet, titled Tres Amigos.
In 1995, he entered Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center and for next 5 years embraced sobriety, graduated with Associate Degree in electronics and Computer Networking from Metro Tech and began working in the IT Department at Metro Tech. He dabbled with playing guitar and golf. He made friends and relationships along the way—many continuing till his passing. Beginning in 2001, Tony began a gradual descent into meth addiction. He found work where he could and did a lot of scrapping to support himself. He was an off and on resident of St Francis House Men’s Shelter. He went to treatment when it was mandated, but he would not embrace it again. In 2011 he was baptized at United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs. In 2016 Tony came home to help his parents and worked at SCOLA as network specialist. Besides his computer skills, he was a good back-yard mechanic-replacing transmissions in several of his vehicles and always available to pull someone out of the ditch or help get a vehicle started. Converting a side car to fit Denny‘s Harley was a troubleshooting challenge and a literal balancing act. By age 54, Tony had experienced tragedy and loss, joy and merriment, anger and despair, physical and mental pain, friends and more friends along his journey. He looked at life as an adventure. Deep down he wanted to find peace —may he now rest in eternal peace.
Preceded in death by his father, he is survived by his mother, siblings Teresa and Dustin, Debra Olofson, Shelli Ballou, niece Faith Olofson, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Honorary Pall Bearers: Fred Hover, Derrick Dias, Dan Kessel, Tim McFarland, Bill Bingle, Pat Hunke Jim Peterson
