Dona Wilson

May 13, 1930 — October 14, 2022

Dona M. Wilson, age 92, of Omaha, NE, entered into eternal rest on October 14, 2022, at Immanuel Village, Omaha, NE.

Donna was born on May 13, 1930 to Don G, and Barbara (Hull) Edwards in Clarinda, Iowa. She grew up in Glenwood, IA, graduating from Glenwood High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart in June, 1950. They were married for 65 years before her husband, Donald passed away in December, 2015. They were blessed with 4 children David, Donelle (Larry), Denise (Tim), and DeAnne (Larry); 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her family was very special to her and she will be missed greatly.

They lived in Council Bluffs, IA for 22 years prior to moving to Omaha, NE in 1978. They moved to Immanuel Village in 2015. In 1963, Don and Dona purchased an island in Sioux Narrows Ontario Canada where they enjoyed fishing, boating and annual family vacations. In their retirement years they spent all summer enjoying the great outdoors.

Dona was baptized at an early age and was faithful to her church. She was a member of Benson Baptist Church for the last 45 years. Dona began her teaching career in a one room school house in the Glenwood, IA area and later became a substitute teacher in the Council Bluffs, IA school system. Dona loved baking (breads and noodles), sewing (clothes and quilts), crocheting (she made hundreds of baby quilts for Assure Pregnancy Centers), reading (she kept a journal of all the books she read), bible studies, playing cards (pinochle, rummy, cribbage) …baseball (Royals and the Cubs), football (Packers and Chiefs) and would root for your team if they weren’t playing against hers!

Donna loved life. She lived it to the fullest every day. She surrounded herself with friends – she kept in touch by writing, calling, and sending cards. She still had the friends that she made in grade school – as well as making new friends everywhere she went – including Immanuel Village. She was very involved in her new community and never went without a dinner partner. She oversaw their library, was a part of their book club and played cribbage every Monday night.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Wilson; daughter-in-law, Mary Wilson; brother, Philip Edwards.

Dona is survived by her children, David Wilson, Donelle (Larry) Royce, Denise (Tim) Wilson; DeAnne (Larry) Smith; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Darlene Fernley and Dorothy Fox; many nieces; nephews; and beloved friends.
