Donald Raymond Sproul

Donald Raymond Sproul, Age 84 of Ankeny, Iowa passed away December 12, 2022. He was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on October 30,1938, to Kenneth and Lois (Conaway) Sproul.

Don married Rose Woolsoncroft on October 2,1959, and they started their family in 1965. Don spent most of his career in the grocery business working at Hinky Dinky stores in Council Bluffs and Sioux City, Iowa. In 1983, Don and Rose decided to start their own grocery business and moved the family to Greenfield, Iowa, where they opened D&R Foodland.

Don enjoyed building and flying remote controlled airplanes and was also an avid pool player. He was soft-spoken and known for his dry sense of humor. He would start a conversation with anyone and always held the door for a lady. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose and nephew, Eiron Neill.

Don is survived by his children; Kelly Saunders (Robert), Jim Sproul (Victoria) and Kim Novy (Matt), 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Sproul; sister, Ruth Neill (Bob); family and friends.

Private family service will be held on December 23, 2022. Don and Rose will enter eternal rest together at Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
