Dorothy Lerette

March 15, 1939 — September 24, 2022

Dorothy Elizabeth (Hunter) LeRette was born March 15, 1939, in Kansas City, MO to Samuel Hunter and Elsie Smith.

While delivering a chicken dinner to a Chevrolet dealership, she met her husband of 65 years, Louis LeRette. After the pair married, the blended family settled in Council Bluffs, IA. Together, Louis and Dorothy raised their family of 7 children and numerous pets. Summers were full of camping expeditions across the Midwest, and one of Dorothy's favorite vacation spots was Branson, MO.

Dorothy loved to cook. She mastered many recipes over the years, many of which are favorites of her children and grandchildren to this day. Additionally, her talent and creativity with a needle provided countless outfits, dance costumes, and curtains to the LeRette household over the years. Outside the home, Dorothy loved to plant and care for her flowers.

Dorothy's other hobbies included cheering on the Chicago Cubs, and as luck would have it she was able to see their 108 year drought end with the 2016 World Series championship. She also loved to read. Her favorite books were those with a little mystery and a whole lot of happily ever afters. Later in life, she scheduled her week with a tv guide in hand. Dorothy always looked forward to her favorite shows including Golden Girls, Dancing with the Stars, and Blue Bloods, to name a few.

Dorothy held various jobs throughout her life where she made many beloved friends and memories. She was known by many names, but perhaps the most precious and closest to her heart, was the title Mom. Dorothy lived for her kids, her grandkids, and great-grandkids and Dorothy was more than happy to be a central figure in their lives. Her greatest love was her family and animals. No kitten ever went cold or hungry if they found themselves in Dorothy's backyard, and her long-time side-kick was her Shih Tzu, Peppie, who will rest with her forever.

Dorothy passed away on September 24, 2022, after a tough battle with chronic illness. She was 83 years old. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents (Samuel Hunter and Elsie Smith), brother (Billy Hunter), and son (Roger LeRette). She is survived by her husband Louis LeRette; children, Louis (Laura) LeRette Jr., Sue (Jerry) Schlapkohl, Terry (Sandie) Randall, Paula (Jerry) Allen, Cindy (Ed) Mullen, and Bobbie (Steve Grzywa) LeRette; daughter-in-law, Julie LeRette; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and countless furry friends.
