Edward Bremmer

Edward Bremmer joined his family and friends in Christ on January 21, 2021.

The 91-year-old retired educator, officer of the Iowa teacher’s union, former Iowa legislator, and decorated Korean War veteran was born on December 30, 1929, in Beaver, Oklahoma.

He grew up in Texas and attended Booker High School; then graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. After proudly serving as a lieutenant in the Korean War, he earned his master’s degree from Creighton University. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marylyn Elaine Seidl. The two were married 54 years and had six children.

Ed enjoyed preparing taxes and volunteering for St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Habitat for Humanity, and the Pottawattamie County Democrats, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award. He looked forward to summer vacations with his family, spending time with his grandchildren, working on projects at home, fixing the family cars, participating in RAGBRAI, cheering on the Creighton Bluejays, and reading The Daily Nonpareil.

He is preceeded in death by his wife Marylyn, babies Joseph and Mary, sisters Carrie Nelle and Josephine, brother John, and half-brothers Konrad and Paul.

He is survived by his children, Steve, Drew, Cathy (Michael) Pacholski, and Amy (Mark) Walters, grandchildren Brianne, Taylor, Morgan, Madison, and Mitchell.

Open viewing and visitation will be Friday, January 29, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home.
A private funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 30, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Omaha.
Memorials to Council Bluffs Public Library, Habitat for Humanity, and The Salvation Army.
