Elizabeth A. Tiarks

August 8, 1941 — August 6, 2020

Elizabeth A. Tiarks was born on August 8, 1941, to John H. and Minnie L. (Pate) Arnold in Paul, Alabama. She graduated from Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Alabama. Elizabeth started work at the Veterans Affairs Hospital as a key punch operator. She then worked in purchasing and contracting and was transferred to Pineville, Louisiana, where she attained the title of Assistant Chief of Supply. Elizabeth met Allan Tiarks in the cafeteria at the VA Hospital, and they were later married on January 3, 1981, in Pineville, Louisiana. Elizabeth retired from the VA Hospital in 1998, and the couple moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where they purchased the Tiarks’ family farm.

Elizabeth was a kind and loving southern lady. She enjoyed flower gardening. Her and Allan traveled to six continents; she especially enjoyed visiting Borneo and the animals in South Africa.

Elizabeth died at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 6, 2020, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 29 days.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin siblings, Lamon and Ravon Arnold; siblings, Lucille Barden, Bill Arnold, and Johnny Arnold. She is survived by her husband, Allan Tiarks of Council Bluffs, Iowa; siblings, Sue and husband Jack Putnam of Dryden, Michigan, Katherine Daria of Simpsonville, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Sylvia and husband Roger McCalla of Billings, Montana; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial service is at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020, at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior, from 10-11. Inurnment is in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Treynor Fire and Rescue and Wings of Hope.
