Forrest Edwin "Eddie" Ebersold

January 15, 1957 — July 23, 2022

Forrest Edwin (Eddie) Ebersold passed away at his home on July 23, 2022.

He was born January 15, 1957 in Springfield, Missouri, the oldest of three sons, to Rev. Bob and Mary Delores (Ghan) Ebersold. The family moved many times as Eddie’s father followed calls to preach in Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Florida, and Mississippi. Eddie attended high school in Pensacola, Florida, Lavaca, Arkansas, and graduated in Rogers, Arkansas in 1975. The following year, he attended Southern Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. He then accepted a position with the Rogers, Arkansas police department.

After his parents and brothers moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, Eddie applied for a position with the Biloxi Police Department where he was an officer until 1983. He returned to college to finish his degree at Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri. While at Tarkio, he met his wife of 37 years, Margaret Joan Henderson. They married August 19, 1984. Two children blessed their marriage, Arica Joan and Robert Edwin.

Graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Tarkio in 1985, Eddie attended Creighton University Law School. He practiced law in the Omaha area for several years before working for Union Pacific Railroad where he eventually became the director of the Sunset Region. Declining health caused him to take early retirement in 2008. He battled multiple health concerns over the last decade including cancer the last five years.

Eddie enjoyed golfing and fishing. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his wife and children and going on family vacations. Many memories were created during those times together. He was baptized by his father in the Southern Baptist Church and became a member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Jack D. Fisher, and great nephews, Mack and Declan Rice.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Arica and her husband, LCDR Ryan Goulet, and son, Robert Ebersold; grandchildren, Suzanna, Jacob, Jack, and Jasper Goulet, and Luka Ebersold; Luka’s mother, Kara Ewalt; brothers, Scott (Debbie) Ebersold and Dwight (Ruth) Ebersold; a niece, three nephews, and their families.

Visitation will be held from 10:00AM - 11:00AM with Funeral service following at 11:00AM at Saint John Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 10, 2022.  Interment of ashes at the Tingley Cemetery, Tingley, Iowa will be held at a later date.
