Genevieve M. Bird

August 4, 1930 — April 29, 2017

Genevieve “Gen” M. Bird, 86 years, of Frisco, Texas, passed away in the Plano Presbyterian Hospital after less than one day in the hospital. Born August 4, 1930 in Fremont, Nebraska to the late Thomas and Helga (Carlson) Berg, she grew up in Wahoo, Nebraska on a family farm. She attended Mead, Nebraska schools and graduated from the Mead High School. She met and married Robert E. Bird in 1951. The early married years were in Council Bluffs where they attended Emanuel Lutheran Church. Then they moved to Columbus, Nebraska and to Fremont, Nebraska attending Sinai Lutheran. It was next to Omaha in 1968 and attended the Lutheran Church of the Master. Then to Grand Island where they attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and Genevieve was church secretary until she became ill with multiple sclerosis. They moved to Wahoo, Nebraska in 1980 and have lived in Dallas since 1990.
Genevieve was mother and homemaker until the children were in junior high school. In 1964 she worked as Executive assistant for the president of Fremont National Bank and 1968 was the Executive assistant to the Dean of Psychology Department at Creighton University. In 1971 She was the church secretary for Pastor Anderson at St. Paul Lutheran as mentioned earlier. She taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for many years at Sinai in Fremont and was very active in the church at St. Paul in Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Helga Berg; her sisters, Violet Villup and an infant Evelyn Berg.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Bird; her sons, Thomas F. Bird and wife, Patrice, James E. Bird and wife, Pippa; grandchildren, Melissa Rodriguez and husband, Alfredo, Margaret Fackler and husband, Jeff, Andrew Bird, Patrice Reed and husband, Jeff and Matthew Bird; great grandchildren, Jordan and Nate Fackler, Mikayla Bird (Andrew), Mila Rodriguez, Laney and Lily Reed; sisters Elsie Johnson and Elanor Mach.
Visitation with the family will be Friday 5 to 7PM at the Hoy – Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, 12PM at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 2444 North Broadway, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Interment will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
