Glen Christoffersen

Glen Christoffersen, age 87, passed away May 2, 2021, after a very brief illness.

He was born February 3, 1934 on the family farm near Underwood, Iowa to Willie and Lillian (Larsen) Christoffersen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Church in Neola. Glen attended Hazel Dell #1 School, known as the “Denmark” School. He graduated from Underwood High School in 1951, attended Dana College at Blair, Nebraska for two years. Glen couldn’t get his Engineering Degree there, so he transferred to Iowa State University at Ames. He received his degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1956.

Glen took a job with Lockheed Aircraft at Van Nuys, California. He worked there for a short time, then transferred to Lockheed at Sunnyvale, California. He worked his entire career on highly classified government projects, being mostly submarine missiles.

As hobbies, he loved photography, steam engines, steam locomotives, machining metal, and travel. He and Margret traveled the world over.

Glen married Bonnie McKnabb of Shelby, Iowa in September, 1955. Bonnie died of leukemia in 1966, leaving Glen with 3 small children. He married Margret Nielsen in 1969. They were married 48 years when she died of cancer.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Bruce Corley; father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Helen McKnabb; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bertelsen and Herb Grote; nephew, Lynn Bertelsen.

He is survived by 3 children, Eric, of New Mexico, Jill Corley, of Colorado and Karl, of California; sister, Doris (Bertelsen) Grote, of Council Bluffs; brother, Paul (Leana), of Underwood; brother-in-law, Lee McKnabb (Audry), of Shelby; sister-in-law, Mona Holmstrom (Harold), of Minburn; 4 grandsons; 3 great-granddaughters, and 1 great grandson; many nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.

Memorial Service to be held at a later date in California.
