Glenn R. Owens

Glenn R. Owens passed away January 14, 2014, at 88 years of age. He was born October 13, 1925, at a farm near McClelland, Iowa, to Josiah and Hazel (Chase) Owens. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1943. Glenn served in World War II from 1944 to 1946 with the 29th infantry division. He married Darlene Hartje on February 2, 1947, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Treynor. They farmed near Oakland & Quick until 1955 when he moved his family to Downey, Calif., where he was a maintenance supervisor for Rockwell International. In 1992, they returned to the Treynor area. He enjoyed woodworking and his John Deere tractors. Throughout much of Glenn and Darlene's lives they traveled the U.S. as well as New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Hong Kong and Alaska. They spent many winters in Arizona. Glenn was a 50 plus year member of Amber Masonic Lodge # 569, Lamar Hartje American Legion #725 and Mount Hope United Methodist Church. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Darlene; brothers, George, Donald, Dale Owens; sister, Geraldine Owens. Glenn is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Ronald and her husband, Greg, of Garden Grove, Calif., Peggy Eshelman and her husband, Eric, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., Rebecca MacIntosh and her husband, Bruce, of Irvine, Calif., Barbara Sowersby and her husband, Gary, of Placentia, Calif.; son, Steve Owens and his wife, Amy, of Treynor, Iowa; sister, Irene Caldwell, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother, Jack Owens, of Monroe, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Thirza Hartje, of Council Bluffs, Audrey Hartje, of Oakland, Iowa, Eva Hartje, of McClelland, Iowa, and June Owens, of Valencia, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Masonic service Friday, 5:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 8 p.m., at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Saturday, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home followed by a luncheon in the Hoy Community Room. Cortege will leave the funeral home after the lunch for interment in the Hardin Township Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Treynor Fire and Rescue or Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.
