Henry Louis Pomerleau

January 5, 1931 — April 7, 2023

Henry Louis Pomerleau “Lou”, age 92, passed away on April 7, 2023.

He was born January 5, 1931, in Hudson, Massachusetts to Germeine Pomerleau. He was the first of his French Canadian family to be born in the United States. He spent much of his childhood in the home of his Grandmother Elmina Grenier Pomerleau and spoke French while growing up. At the age of 17 he entered the Navy where he traveled the world. After four years, he left the Navy and enlisted in the Air Force a year later. While stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska, he met Marjorie Ann Nixon. They were married on November 5, 1955. Lou and Marjorie lived many places during his service including Illinois, California, Texas, Mississippi, Philippines, and Kansas. After 20 years in the military, they returned to Council Bluffs where he worked as an elevator repairman at O’keefe Elevator until his retirement in 1992. Lou was a loyal family man and was always there to lend a hand. He could fix anything. A captivating storyteller, he would share his military and life adventures to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed driving around town and frequented the Air Force Base to socialize and seek out the best deals, graciously sharing his finds with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Marjorie Pomerleau (2013) and three sons, Vincent Pomerleau (2022), Vernon Pomerleau (2022) and Arthur Pomerleau (stillborn 1958).

Lou Is survived by his daughters Nancy (Roger) Brightwell and Sharon Stewart; daughter-in-law Marcia (Vincent) Pomerleau; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
