Irene Marie Schroder

Irene Marie Schroder was born in Neola, Iowa to Carrie and Harold Clausen on September 8, 1928. She was the third of eight children.

Irene grew up on the Clausen farm and upon high school graduation got her teaching certificate and taught in a one room school house in Neola. She married Marvin Carl Schroder on May 28, 1947. They celebrated their 65th anniversary before his death in 2013. They lived in Council Bluffs where Irene worked at McIntyre Oldsmobile and Cadillac until 1970, when Marvin took a position as a traveling auditor at Mooseheart. Following that, they moved to Aurora, Illinois where Irene worked at Farmers Insurance.

She also sold Avon for many years and enjoyed the many friendships she made through that. In 1990 they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Irene enjoyed the sunshine there, volunteered at the local hospital, enjoyed growing beautiful flowers on their patio and caring for their beloved Schnauzer, Angel. They traveled around the world on numerous cruises. In 2003 they moved back to Council Bluffs to be near relatives and friends. They joined St John Lutheran Church where they enjoyed Bible study classes.

In 2008 they chose to sell their home and move to Risen Son Christian Village. Irene enjoyed many activities there, especially playing bingo which brought a big smile and laugh from her as she recounted the many times she won. Irene passed away on May 2, 2022, at the age of 93.

She is survived by her son, Alan Schroder and his wife, Gale, of Frisco, TX, her daughter, Diane Irlmeier and her husband, Terry, of Ft Myers, FL,; her grandson, Scott Irlmeier, his wife, Jen, of O'Fallon, MO and her granddaughter, Lisa Irlmeier of Ft. Myers, FL; Great Grandchildren Alan Schroder III, Joshua, Tyler and Samantha Irlmeier, Josh and Emily Schroder, Jennifer Crysblsky, Seth and Clare Sode, and Andrew Kilary and Riley Schroder.

She is predeceased by her husband, Marvin Carl Schroder, her son Douglas and her grandson, Alan Schroder, Jr. Irene is also survived by her loving sisters, Leona Stuart and husband, Tom, Lucille Jackson and husband Bill, of Council Bluffs, her sister Linda Chollett and husband Kenny of Omaha, and her brother Glenn of South Dakota, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her sisters, Olga Schroder and Elva Holt, and her brother, Ralph Clausen, pre deceased her.

Viewing will be Friday, May 6, at 10am followed by a service at 11am at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home in Council Bluffs.
