Jean B. Goos

Jean B. Goos, passed away on September 28, 2022, at Accurra Healthcare Facility at Stanton Iowa, at the age of 103 years. Jean was born on November 26, 1918, at the old Plumer Stagecoach Inn at Silver City, Iowa. 

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Goos; parents, Arthur and Maude Burgoin; grandson, James Hein and son-in law, Gregory Forristall. She is survived by her children, Lynn (Janet) Goos, Carol Forristall and Margaret (Dennis) Hein; grandchildren, Eugene Goos, Michelle (Steve) Hutchens and Jennifer Rae (Alan) Wang. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. 

Jean attended school at Silver City and at the time of her death, she was the oldest living alumni of Silver City High School. She attended the Cedar Falls’ Teachers’ College and all her life talked fondly of the students she taught. She was united in marriage to Donald A. Goos on June 3, 1944, and the couple farmed the family’s Century Farm for many years and she cooked many fine meals for the family and farm workers. Jean and her cousin started the 4-H program in Mills County and taught many girls the fine arts of homemaking. She always put her family first and made sure her children had every opportunity to succeed in their many activities. She was a long-time member of the Lutheran Church. She was an icon of information on the history of the Silver City area, having lived there for nearly 104 years.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM at the Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Monday, October 03, 2022. A luncheon will begin at 12:00 PM followed by a graveside service that afternoon in the Silver City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Hein Family Foundation or Treynor Fire and Rescue.
