Johnie Dale John Adkins, age 86, of Council Bluffs, passed away the Josie Harper Hospice House, in Omaha, Nebraska on May 29, 2016. He was born on September 21, 1929 to the late Reuben and Greata (Bishop) Adkins. Johnie retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad after 41 years of service. He also served his country in the Army serving in the Korean War. Staying busy after retirement as the church custodian, shuttle bus driver at Harrah's Casino, delivering flowers for Perlas Flower Shop, and a greeter at JC Penny. He was 50+a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church having served as an elder and volunteer. In addition to his parents, Johnie was preceded in death by his sisters, Phyllis Cooper and Hettie Adkins. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Christine Gillette; granddaughters, Carissa Gillette and Cayla Gillette; sisters, Ruby Hunt, Mary Adkins, and Greata Adkins; brother, Reuben Adkins (Carol); cousins, nieces, nephews and many other friends and family. Visitation will be on Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral Service will also be on Saturday at 3:00 p.m at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lewis Township Cemetery followed by a reception at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
