Randy Hazen

Randy L. Hazen was born June 19, 1956, to Lee and Lorene (Schroeder) Hazen in Creston, IA. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson in Council Bluffs, IA in 1975. At age 15, Randy began his long-time career as a tool maker at Distefano in Omaha, NE. He continued this profession with many other companies, ending his career at Specialty Tool and Machine in Omaha. Randy attended clown school and clowned around for many years after graduating high school. He got his pilot’s license in the early 80’s, then received his INR License in October 1987. Randy passed his scuba diving NASDS Scuba Course in August 1986 and went on many scuba diving trips in Cozumel.

Randy went on his first date with Patti Sapienza on August 2, 1985. The couple was married on June 19, 1990 in Council Bluffs. They made their home in Magnolia, IA in 1990 where they hosted annual hog roasts for many years.

Randy was involved with the Magnolia Fire and Rescue for 24 years. He enjoyed rock crawling with the Extreme Creations Truck Club. As a family, they raised many animals including some exotic animals. He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage. Randy did not count favors; he was always willing to help someone out. He always had a way of lightening up the mood and making everyone laugh. Most of all, Randy enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Randy passed away at CHI Health Immanuel Medical Center on January 10, 2021, at the age of 64 years, 6 months, 22 days.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Hazen; and grandson, Jaden Dunn. Randy is survived by his wife, Patricia Hazen of 30 years; children, Tiffini (Jeff Lariviere) Dunn of Terril, IA, Nicholas (Kayla Crosley) Hazen of Colorado Springs, CO , Jacub (Missy) Hazen of Harlan, IA, Curtis (Kara) Hazen of Tennant, IA; grandchildren: Kyler, Macii, and Levi Dunn, Kaden, Kylee, Adalynn, and Hadley Lariviere, Ethan, Lydia, Jameson, and Tristan Hazen, William and Emma Hazen, Weslynn Hazen, and one on the way; sisters, Kathryn LeBreton and Jill (Phillip) Palmer; and a host of other family and friends.


Open viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, January 17, 2021. The family will be present from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The family will direct memorials.
