Roy H. Rhatigan

Roy H. Rhatigan, age 77, passed away August 31, 2021. He was born December 17, 1943 to Howard and Elizabeth (McDonough) Rhatigan in Oakland, California. Roy grew up and graduated from Albia High School with the class of 1961. He entered the 5-year apprenticeship program to become a journeyman pressman in 1963 at the Ottumwa Iowa Courier. After receiving his journeyman's card in 1968 he went to work at Omaha World Herald. He was a member of graphic Communication Union local 543m.
On September 3, 1966 he married Linda Austin of Ottumwa, Iowa and Friday they would have celebrated their 55th anniversary.

He loved helping people participating in paintathons. Some of his fondness memories are his mission trips to winner south Dakota and Delta Iowa with Broadway Christian Church. He was always willing to help a friend with putting on a roof, building a retaining wall etc., he was one of the original members of habitat of humanity of council bluffs and participated in the first 7 projects.

In retirement he enjoyed walking his grand dog, Toby, playing golf with friends from the American legion golf league. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Roy is survived by wife of 55 years, Linda Rhatigan; daughter, Rachel Rhatigan; brothers, Richard of Jacksonville, Fl, Robert of Marshalltown, IA; brother-in-law, William (Beth) Austin of Ottumwa, IA; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Due to covid a Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Midlands Humane Society or Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs.
