Sharon J. Uhl

September 26, 1944 — March 9, 2023

Sharon J. Uhl, age 78, passed away March 9, 2023 at UNMC in Omaha after a short bout in the hospital.

She was born September 26, 1944, to the late Marion and Margaret (Hartigan) Torgerson in Ute, Iowa. She graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1961. She and her husband, Norman, made Mapleton, Iowa their home until 1974. They moved to Sioux City until 1982, before finally making their way to Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Sharon looked forward to spending time in the summer at Black Hawk Lake in Lake View, Iowa for the last 28 years. She loved to go and sit on her screened-in porch, spending time with her sisters, friends and family. She loved the lake, but not the water. She would always agree to one boat ride a year.

If anyone was going anywhere, Sharon was the first in the car. She enjoyed going out to lunch and dinner with friends and family, especially fish frys, during Lent. She was up for playing keno and an occasional run to the casino. She loved watching TV, especially the Game Show Network and Lifetime movies.

In 1982, her husband, Norm, started Norm’s Heating and Air Conditioning in Council Bluffs. She answered the phones and set up appointments for the guys for over 40 years. She took great pride in her work and continued to do it for her boys after Norm passed away 21 years ago. Many of their customers may have never met her personally, but they knew her voice and kind, caring heart. She will be missed tremendously in that role.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She spent countless hours spoiling and rocking her grandbabies and great grandbabies. She was very proud of all her kids and would be the first to tell you about it.

Sharon was a two-time breast cancer survivor. In appreciation, donations are encouraged to the Jennie Edmundson Foundation for breast cancer research.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by spouse, Norman Uhl; infant sister, Norma Torgerson.

Sharon is survived by her children, Terry (Renita) Uhl, Larry (Heather) Uhl, Tammy (Todd) Frank, and Melissa (Kenneth) Gwennap; sisters, Carol Aronson and Marlene Head; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends.
