Tomas (Tom) Shippy, age 50, passed away September 17, 2020, in Omaha, Nebraska.

He was born on October 7, 1969, in Hendricks, Minnesota, to Donald and Theresa (Kobliska) Shippy. Tom started school in Canby, MN, moved to Waterloo, IA for most of his elementary education, and then to Council Bluffs, where he attended Hoover Elementary School, Kirn Junior High, and Abraham Lincoln High; he graduated from Kanesville Alternative Learning Center. Tom then attended Creighton University in Omaha for a time.

Tom worked as a computer technician, programmer, and trouble shooter for West Corporation in Omaha, for Aquila Energy in Omaha and Kansas City, and for InfoGroup in Papillion. His most recent position was as a rural carrier associate for the United States Postal Service in Omaha.

Tom is survived by his parents; and by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Val and Ron Steffen (Clear Lake, IA) and Susan and Ron Weihs (Honey Creek, IA); nieces, Brenna Maher and significant other Caleb McLain (Clarinda, IA) and sons Nathan Maher, Jasen McLain, Wesley McLain, and Andrew McLain, Sara Steffen, (Colorado Springs, CO), Regan Steffen (Clear Lake, IA), and Shelbie Weihs (Honey Creek, IA); his nephew, Sam Steffen (Clear Lake, IA); and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother Dean, his paternal grandparents Wayne and Eileen (Anderson) Shippy (Canby, MN), his maternal grandparents Lester and Sophia (Koss) Kobliska (Chetek, WI), his nephew-in-law Sergeant Brent Maher (Honey Creek, IA), and uncle Alan Kobliska (East Sandwich, MA)

A private family memorial service will be held. Inurnment will be at Garner Township Cemetery in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Memorials not otherwise directed by the donor will be given to Gary Sinise Foundation.org and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.org
