Virginia M. Williams

October 24, 1928 — June 11, 2019

Virginia Mae Williams, age 90, went to be with Jesus on June 11, 2019, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

She was born near Bridgewater, Iowa, on October 24, 1928, to the late Archie and Bertha (Sickles) Williams.

Virginia graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1947 and went on to earn an Elementary Education Certificate from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught Kindergarten-8th grade in a one-room school house in Adair County, Iowa, until 1951.
On June 21, 1951, she married Glenn H. Williams in Lincoln, NE, and moved to Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he was stationed in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, Virginia and Glenn moved to Council Bluffs in 1953 and built a home, where she still resided.
She substitute taught for a few years before having child care in her home for more than 27 years. She was the bookkeeper for Glenn's Ace Body Shop for 4 years. She was also an amazing seamstress—rarely using patterns. She was an avid scrapbooker and in the last month learned to make digital photo books.
She had a great love of animals, wild and domestic. She enjoyed her daily visits from her nephew, Todd, and he helped her with the care of her animals and many other tasks she requested.
At the age of 68, she went on her first rafting trip down the Meramec River in Missouri! A few years later, she and Glenn went rafting again for their 50th anniversary. Glenn passed away in 2003 after 52 years of marriage.
Virginia was a member of First Christian Church, teaching Sunday School for over 30 years, and Eastside Christian Church where she helped with crafts in Vacation Bible School.
She was a life-long teacher and learner. She believed that "you must learn something new every day!" Many knew her as Aunt Ginia or Granny Ginia.
She will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn H. Williams; sister, Vivian Williams; brother, Dale Williams; beloved granddaughter, Andrea Turner; and her most recent furry friend, Sevi.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna Rushing (Gary) of Petersburg, IL; Diana Turner (Ed) of Columbia, MO; Danadale Jones (Dan) of Salinas, CA; son, Dustin Williams (Candi) of Queen Creek, AZ; brother, Delmar Williams (Lyndia); sisters, Vinita Strickland (David), Veronica Turner (Bob), Verlene Holste (Wayne); grandchildren, Ashley Dow (Tyler), Alex Turner (Julie), Tasha Williams; great granddaughter, Addison Dow; nephew, Todd Holste; other nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life service is Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Rich Milliken officiating. Interment will be in the Garner Cemetery in Bridgewater, Iowa, at 2:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or a pet sanctuary of your choice.
