William Allen Vanbibber

September 24, 1943 — July 3, 2017

William Allen VanBibber was born September 24th, 1943, in Omaha, NE and always lived in the Council Bluffs area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Roma (Klenk) VanBibber and his older brother Paul VanBibber. Bill always remained close to his younger brother, Dan. Childhood and adolescent memories included many “stories” about the antics of Bill, Dan, and his lifelong buddy, Dave Skipton. Other loving memories were of his old dog Rover who lived to be an amazing 17 years old. A very important person in Bill’s life was his Grandpa. Throughout his life he spent countless hours with “Gramps” enjoying fishing, horse racing, playing pitch and basically anything outdoors. Gramps inspired Bill’s love of gardening. He will always be remembered for his tomatoes. Although he planted many different vegetables and tried something new each year, his specialty was tomatoes. Over many years he had developed this into a fine art! Planting from seed in early spring and using tips and tricks he had learned, Bill nurtured them until they were finally ready to be planted. There were always lots of extras to give away and his tomato plants were always bigger and healthier than any you could purchase!

Bill was a big fan of many different sports but particularly loved football and NASCAR. For many years he participated in bowling leagues and a pool league. He was always up for a good game of Pitch with family or friends. For several years, on the last Thursday of every month, Bill would venture out to what we jokingly called “Mo Fish Night”. He and his brother Dan, along with their wives would meet at Mo Fish for dinner and fun conversation and close the place down – usually about 7:00 pm!

Bill and his wife Lynn were blessed with three beautiful daughters – Cheri, Kim, and Susie. The girls jokingly referred to him as their “plaid Dad” because they never saw him wear anything but plaid shirts. Occasionally a striped one would make its way into his closet but that was rare.

Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lynn VanBibber; children, Cheri McLaughlin, Kim Boyle (Paul), Susie Baier (John); brother, Dan VanBibber (Suzy); 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was employed with Redfield Printing Company in downtown Omaha for 42 years, retiring in 2009. He was a wonderful provider for his family, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
