Betty Kermoade

January 11, 1937 — May 24, 2021

Betty was born on January 11, 1937 in Meadville, MO to her parents Floyd & Alma (Thompson) Gudgell. She was an only child who moved around often for her father’s job at Sutherland Lumber but they eventually landed in Omaha, NE. While she was always quick to tell you she was from the ‘show me state’ she was the proudest Husker fan around on football Saturdays.

Betty developed a love for dancing in her teen years that lasted a lifetime and she was always the life of the party. Some of her favorite dances included polka, waltzing, “The Twist” and bopping along to any music ‘with a good beat.’ She was also a fan of Elvis Presley and would brag to anyone who listened that she got to see him in concert back in her day.

While in Omaha, she attended and graduated from Omaha South High School. After graduating, Betty worked as a librarian at Omaha South and eventually met her husband, Jack at the Sutherland Lumber company picnic. They fell in love and were married on September 23, 1961 welcoming two children, Karen Roth (Ron Kline) and Don Kermoade (Stacy) in 1963 and 1966.

After having children, Betty left her job as a librarian to be a stay at home mom while her husband and one of his brothers owned and operated Hillcrest Texaco in Ralston, NE for many years. The Texaco was tore down in 1976 and soon after they relocated to Fullerton, NE where they purchased and operated a Gambles Hardware Store for many years.

They welcomed their only grandchild, Amanda into the family in 1988 and retired shortly after. In 1993 Jack & Betty moved to a home in Camdenton, MO on Lake of the Ozarks in Beauty Cove to live out their days boating and fishing. Their time on the lake was cut short when Jack became ill and they moved back to Lincoln, NE in 1998 to be closer to family. After his passing in 2002, Betty quickly became her granddaughter’s number one fan, attending every single sporting event she participated in during high school and college.

Betty continued to reside in Lincoln and while she suffered from dementia for several years prior to her passing, she was able to witness her granddaughter’s marriage to Tyler in 2018 and help welcome her great-grandson, Jude Jackson into the family in 2019.

Betty was loved by many and will be missed greatly by her family. Despite the onset of dementia, she still loved sharing stories of her beloved family up until the day she passed. May we all remember the good times we had with her here on earth and find peace in knowing she is reunited with her husband, parents, and other loved ones who are no longer with us.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Kermoade.
Betty is survived by her children, Karen Roth (Ron Kline) and Don Kermoade (Stacy); granddaughter, Amanda Sudbeck (Tyler); great grandchild, Jude Sudbeck.
