Carol Lorraine Eberle

January 6, 1933 — October 14, 2013

Carol Lorraine (Richards) Eberle passed away October 14, 2013. She was born January 6, 1933 in rural Glenwood, Iowa to the late Frank and Daisy (Johnson) Richards. At an early age she was sent to the Council Bluffs Childrens Home and then was a resident of the Annie Wittenmyer Home in Davenport until she was placed in a foster home with Doc and Hazel Christensen of Scranton, Iowa. She married Duane Eberle in Des Moines, Iowa on August 29, 1949 and together they had four children, Katheleen, Steven, Sara and Laurel. Her grandma, Sarah Johnson, taught her how to sew and she took in sewing for many years. She enjoyed making clothes for her children and her girls often wore matching dresses when they were younger. She also made Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. In addition to sewing, Carol had childcare in her home. She loved having children to care for and there are several who still call her Grammie. She also worked with special needs children at Scranton Elementary School before moving to Bellevue. Carol wanted to be remembered as one who loved her children and their families very deeply. She particularly enjoyed traveling to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in various sporting events and school activities. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Barbara and Joanna. Carol is survived by her children, Katheleen Eberle, Steven (Mary) Eberle, Sara (Mike) Hardy, Laurel (Philip) Eason, Lydia (Chad) Gabriel; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Rua (Chuck) Haddock and Suzanna OBrien; honorary grandchildren, Beth Boyd and Kristy Rosenthal. Family and friends will meet on Friday at 1:30PM in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa.
