Curtis Smith

November 1, 1971 — December 7, 2021

Curtis Smith, age 50, passed away at Jennie Edmundson Hospital December 7, 2021.

He was born November 1, 1971, to Thomas and Patricia (Conrad) Smith in Council Bluffs, IA. Curt grew up in Council Bluffs and graduated from Lewis Central High School. After graduation, he worked several jobs but found that he excelled at sales. He was the top salesman for Ace Construction, and after his brother passed, he took over his tree removal business, renaming it Treesmiths in honor of him and their last name. He ran the business with his partner Jeremy, and it really was a family business, as many of the kids and the girls' boyfriends participated on many jobs.
Curt and Melanie made their home in Council Bluffs where they raised their 3 daughters. He was never sad that he didn't get a son, instead, he taught his girls how to fish and always encouraged them when they played soccer and volleyball, always on the sidelines at all of their games and dance recitals.
Curt and his brother fought a lot growing up, but they were really close after they grew out of that stage. After his brother passed away, Curt stepped up and did what he could for his two nephews and two nieces.
Curt was a very generous man, and if you were his friend, you had a friend for life. He and Mel became “band parents” for several bands, taking them in and feeding them as they made their way across the country playing music. They loved attending concerts together.
Curt was a big Hawkeye fan, and most football Saturdays you would find him at his dad's watching the game. He also followed the Iowa men's basketball team and his favorite pro team since childhood was the Steelers.
Curt loved being outdoors; working in the garden or with his chickens. If you needed help with your computer, he was the one to call. He would help anyone out and expect nothing in return. He loved playing games on the PlayStation, watching movies, listening to music and taking road trips with Mel and the kids. He passed on his love for Halloween to his kids, loving to dress up (usually as a werewolf) and scare all of the kids out trick-or-treating. Many years, they converted their garage to a haunted house and had all of the family participate.
He will also be missed by his furry dog children Ollie and Kaina, and new kitty Finn.

He was preceded in death by mother, Patricia Smith; brother, Bill Smith; mother-in-law, Beverly Rippe.

Curtis is survived by his wife of 24 years, Melanie Smith; father, Thomas Smith; daughters, Danielle (Isaac) Wohlers, Taylor Smith, and Jordyn Smith; father-in-law, Larry (Ucinda) Sims.
