Dale Bard

April 9, 1927 — October 29, 2018

Dale Bard, of Council Bluffs, passed away October 29, 2018 due to complications of vascular disease.

He was born in Wakefield, Nebraska on April 9, 1927 to the late Carl and Mabel (Ring) Bard. He attended primary school in a one room school house, and graduated from Wakefield High School. He proudly served in the US Navy, then graduated from Wayne State College. In 1948, he married Helen Funkhouser.

His first full-time job was a high school biology teacher in Alliance, Nebraska and his last full-time job was as the national sales and marketing director at Arkla in Paragould, Arkansas. He appeared on national television shows as The Patio Gourmet, served as Lt. Governor in Kiwanis, and was a Methodist Lay Pastor. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed boating, cooking, raising horses, and lots of travelling. Yes, he did a “heap” of living in 91 years and enjoyed every day. Attitude is everything!

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; granddaughter, Anne Harter; brothers, Gordon Bard, Harley Bard; brother-in-law, Jimmie Funkhouser and his wife, Wilma; aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.

Dale is survived by his three daughters, Jan (Jim) Westermann, of Bellingham, Wash., Julee (Doug) Lloyd, of Crescent, Iowa, and Keri (Kent) Noel, of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren, Jaimi Brooke Westermann, Jani (Zachary) Snell, Joy Westermann, Brian (Heidi) Harter, Cassie (Patrick) Coburn; great grandchildren, James and Sarah Westermann, Payton, Rylee, and Camryn Harter, Ohana and Turk Jimenez, Katya and Dmitry Snell; sisters-in-law, Coreen Bard, Carol Bard; and a host of other family and friends.
