David Lezell

October 30, 1963 — November 17, 2020

David Lezell, 57, passed away on November 17, 2020, in Crescent, IA.

David Lezell was born on October 30, 1963, in Fairfield, CA, at the Travis Air Force Base to Bernard and Carole Lezell. David was raised in Michigan, where he graduated from Algonac High School in Fairhaven, MI, in 1979, and he then moved to Massachusetts in 1981. He spent his life working with thoroughbred racehorses, as an outrider at Suffolk Downs (Revere, MA) and Rockingham Park (Salem, NH) for over twenty-five years, and then as a horse trainer in Maryland.

David married Elizabeth Lezell on November 9, 1986, in Revere, MA. The couple had one child, Caitlin Shalvey, of Melrose, MA.

David was best known for his talent and dedication as a horseman, his love of fishing, his sense of humor, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He was happiest spending time with family and friends at the lake or out on the ocean, or when caring for his horses and barn cat, Fluffy.

David is survived by Caitlin Shalvey, daughter, and her husband, Eugene Shalvey, of Melrose, MA; Elizabeth Lezell, his wife of thirty-one years, of Revere, MA; his parents, Bernard and Carole Lezell, of Estero, FL; his younger brother Robert Lezell of Lake Orion, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for David will be held in Revere, MA, at a date to be determined.

Memorial donations can be made in David's name to the Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farms in Georgetown, KY. (https://www.oldfriendsequine.org/)
