Garland Roger Brandenburg

July 26, 1941 — March 9, 2020

He was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on July 26, 1941 to the late Euel and Zelma (Taylor) Brandenburg.

Garland graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1959. He joined the Army National Guard in 1964, and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He proudly served his country in the National Guard for 23 years. He worked in route sales, working for Coca-Cola, Kitty Clover, Frito-Lay, retiring Little Debbie.

Garland and Karen (Thompson) met at Safeway Food Store where Garland was a Produce Manager. They were married August 4, 1963 at St, Paul’s Lutheran Church. They were married 56 years. Garland and Karen had three children, Lisa Uhlenkamp, Rodney Brandenburg (Tia), Roger Brandenburg (Jill); Garland has one brother, Carl Brandenburg (Helen); five grandchildren, Jordan West (Wil), Amanda Gammell (Steven), Bailey Brandenburg (Josh Sindelar), Brody Brandenburg and Jackson Brandenburg; and one great granddaughter, Emersyn Gammell; a host of other family and friends.

Garland was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, were he serve as a usher and served on commitees at St. Paul’s. Garland enjoyed being around people, he never “knew a stranger”, he enjoyed meeting friends for coffee at Perkins, Panera and Hy-Vee on Madison Ave. If Garland wasn’t home you would probably find him having coffee somewhere. The last couple of years, you could catch him having coffee at Primrose Retirement Community where he lived. Mom and Dad would tease the staff they were the “welcoming commitee for Primrose”. One of Garland and Karen favorite hobbies was traveling, they took several cruises and visited many countries. He loved talking about their trips and sharing pictures
of their many adventures.

Visitation is 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday March 12, 2020 at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church – 239 Frank Street in Council Bluffs. Interment is in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
