Gilbert W. Stogdill

September 29, 1938 — April 19, 2014

Gilbert Woodrow Stogdill, Jr was born in Council Bluffs, IA on September 29th, 1938 to loving parents Gilbert Sr. and Rose (Reggio) Stogdill. He was the middle sibling to sister, Crystal and brother, Michael, whom he loved dearly. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1956 and married his sweetheart, Bessie Virgene. They were married for 57 years at the time of his death. She lovingly cared for him throughout his battle with Alzheimer's disease, which he ultimately won on April 19th, 2014. He worked the majority of his adult life for Roberts Dairy, retiring after 38 years as the Transportation Manager. Throughout his career there, he delivered milk door-to-door and drove a semi-truck to make regional deliveries. He took great pride in transporting the Robert's Dairy cow "Bessie" to local fairs and parades, bringing joy and smiles to the children there. While Gib's greatest interest was spending time and telling stories with family at picnics, birthdays, family reunions, etc., he also enjoyed the competition of a bowling, golf or softball game. His true passion was in spending a Saturday afternoon watching his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes take the field. In his later years, he loved to walk the neighborhood in search of treasures and coins for his many collections, which he enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren. Gib and Virgene had 5 daughters, each with families of their own: Teresa Voss and her family, Jamie and Josh McMullen (Ezra and Izabella), Jennifer and Les Ballard, (Gavin) and Jarrod Voss (Elijah); Vicky Carpenter and her family, Heather and Mike Johnston (Andrew and Alex), Matthew and Adam Carpenter; Sheri Steffee and her family, Joseph and Jessica Caskey (Piper) and Kristen Caskey; Dianna Zika and her family, Stefani and Nicole Zika; Kelli and Randall Dickey and their family (Brandon, Garrett, Faith and Spencer Dickey). Gib also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends who meant a great deal to him. Visitation is Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment is in the Silver City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Midlands Chapter of the Alzheimers Association.
