Lloyd Athay

Lloyd Athay, age 81, passed away on June 18, 2020, at Lifecare Center, Longmont, Colorado.

Lloyd was born September 26, 1938 in Council Bluffs, IA to the late William and Ione Athay. He lived most of his life in the Council Bluffs, Iowa area. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High school in 1957. Shortly after graduating, he joined the Airforce with his twin brother Floyd. He served for 4 years, stationed in Syracuse, New York. O'Hare Airforce base and in Grandforks, North Dakota. He became an electrician while in the air force. Lloyd married Judy (Hickey) Athay while in the air force and they had 3 children; Fred, Christine, and Kenney. After the air force, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, and North Platte, Nebraska. He later started a heating, plumbing, and air conditioning business. In 1983 he married Chery (Ulrich) Athay from Missouri Valley, Iowa. He was involved in his church and the Nebowa Church camp. Lloyd enjoyed working with his hands and fixing and repairing many things for the home, church, and the camp. After he retired he built his own home in Missouri Valley, something he was always proud of. In 2005 he and Cheryl moved to Longmont, Colorado. In Colorado, he enjoyed hiking, sightseeing in the mountains and working on his home or at his church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Fred; brothers, Jim, Bill, Floyd; and sister, Clara.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Cheryl; daughter, Christine; son, Kenny; stepsons, Matt, John, and Nick; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial Prayer Service will be Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 4:00 PM with an open visitation until 6:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home.
The family will direct memorials.
