In Loving Memory of
Margie M. Garcia
Loving wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother, caring friend, helpful neighbor, devout parishioner and an active member of the Council Bluffs and Omaha communities.
Tata, as we affectionately called her, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2021 at her home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on June 2, 1944 and married her childhood friend, Dr. Jorge Garcia-Padial, on her birthday in 1966. They had 3 children. Margie loved being a mom and a grandmother but loved being a wife, the most.
Margie and Jorge moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1986. Margie quickly became an active member of her new community; volunteered at Mercy Hospital as a Spanish interpreter; was president of the Council Bluffs Guild of the Omaha Symphony; was a board member of the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha; and was actively involved in volunteer work for other institutions and entities in the area.
Margie was a devout Catholic and dedicated her life to helping others. She was an Eucharistic Minister for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a fundraiser for the new church campaign. She was also a member of the St. Patrick’s Altar & Rosary Society and the Women’s Book Study.
Margie is survived by her husband, Dr. Jorge Garcia-Padial and her children and spouses, Margarita Garcia and Lyle Kirkland, Maria Elena and Craig Peterman and Jorge Jose and Micki Garcia and her grandchildren, Kyara and fiancé Marcus, Jameson, Leia and fiancé Matthew, Jacob, Zoe, Charlie, and Andrew.
A Memorial Mass will be held on May 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. Interment will be at a later date in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the Greater Omaha Orchid Society or to the University of Nebraska Medical Center-Buffett Cancer Center. If you are able, the family asks that everyone in attendance wear red to celebrate Margie's life.
