Marilyn passed away peacefully on August 19, 2022, at Elm Crest In Harlan, IA after a long illness.
Marilyn Kay Ahrens was born at home on February 22, 1949 to Marie (Miller) and Charles Monahan near Panama, IA. She attended country school, Cass #2. Marilyn attended Portsmouth Catholic School and graduated from Harlan High School in 1967.
After high school, Marilyn married and began living in Council Bluffs. Two boys, Rick and David Rohrberg, were born to that union. She worked at the Mercantile Bank and began cleaning homes for a few local doctors. Marilyn remarried and welcomed a daughter to her family, Annie Rae. Marilyn was happy to give up her jobs outside the home to stay home and raise her daughter.
Everyone related and many others knew Marilyn as and called her Blondie. Blondie loved to play cards of any kind. She also loved her soap operas - One Life to Live and General Hospital. She would be sure to record them if she couldn’t watch as they aired. She drank Tab pop and wore her high heels/wedges ALL THE TIME. Blondie was also very superstitious. She didn’t leave her house on Friday the 13th unless a dire emergency arose.
Marilyn’s greatest love other than raising her own children was helping David to raise her granddaughter, Téa. Words cannot describe the love and pride Marilyn had for Téa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Lois (in infancy), Dorothy Miller and Donna Moore; and one brother, Mike Monahan.
She is survived by her children: Rick Rohrberg (Council Bluffs), Dave Rohrberg (Omaha) and Annie Aherns (Council Bluffs) and her granddaughter, Téa; her siblings: Darlene (Chuck) Montgomery-Yuba City, CA; Patrick (Ruth) Monahan-Earling, IA; Phil Monahan-Harlan, IA; Greg Monahan-Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Barb (Mike) Monahan; brother-in-law Jim (Dorothy) Miller; many nieces and nephews.
