Penny Renee Buckingham

Penny Renee Buckingham was born to the late Richard and Delia Sturgeon on March 6th, 1957, in Audubon, Iowa. Penny graduated from Audubon High School in 1975. She was a kind soul, always had a smile on her face, and lived life to the fullest.

In Penny's early years, she was employed at Audubon-Manning Vet Clinic for 20 years, where she enjoyed working with the farmers and caring for animals.

In 2000, she met her best friend and the love of her life, Craig, and moved to Treynor, Iowa. The two were joined in marriage on November 18, 2000.

Shortly thereafter, she began working in the surgery department at Bergan Mercy. The two had a fun side business of shaved ice and funnel cakes for many years, which often became a family affair. Penny loved having her children and grandchildren in the trailer with her.

In 2019, Penny and Craig's dream came true, when they opened the doors of the Palace Event Center. They turned their 1933 barn into a wedding venue. She was now able to give others the best day of their lives. Penny always loved a celebration. Family gatherings were one of her favorites, especially Christmas and her annual Labor Day party.

Penny had the biggest heart, and she loved her husband deeply. She was so proud of all of her children. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Craig Buckingham; children, Traci (Chad) Nimmo of Adel, Iowa; Trisha (David) Oberhoffer of Adel, Iowa; Tiffany (Ben) Dudley of Treynor, Iowa; Eric Buckingham of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ryan Buckingham of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; grandchildren, Tyson, Kylie, Caleb, Carson, Joshua, Alexa, Huxley, Kendrix, Dallas, and Brielle; siblings, Pam (Chuck) Swan, Pegs (Mark) Sornson, Scott (Kathy) Sturgeon, & Sonya (Jeff) Claman; mother-in-law, Norma Buckingham; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Christine Sturgeon, and father-in-law, Norris Buckingham.

The Memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Palace Event Center in Treynor, Iowa. The afternoon will be spent celebrating her life. In lieu of flowers, make a donation in Penny's honor to the charity of your choice.
