Rea Buchanan Blackburn

May 18, 1952 — April 5, 2022

Rea “Ray” Blackburn, age 69, passed away peacefully at CHI Health Mercy Hospital April 5, 2022. He was born May 18, 1952 to Clair and Kathryn (Buchanan) Blackburn in Lovell, WY.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clair Blackburn; mother, Kathryn Blackburn; brother, Rex Blackburn; brother, Robert Blackburn.

Rea is survived by his wife, Quella “Karleen”, of 48 years and his children, Kristina Blackburn, Suzanne Blackburn, KarieAnn (Jason) Shadley, Matthew Blackburn, James (Christa) Blackburn, Peter (Daina) Blackburn, Meagan Blackburn, Bethany Blackburn, Wayne (Marina) Blackburn; brother, Larry Blackburn; and a host of other family and friends.

Rea filled his life with serving others. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, spent countless hours serving with the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and many other community organizations. Many might recognize him from his time as Santa Claus at the Council Bluffs Bass Pro Shop. He loved bringing smiles to the faces of others and remembering the reason for the season.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, April 15, 2022. The church is located at 2303 Butler St, Council Bluffs, IA 51503. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, also at the church. Internment is in the Omaha National Cemetery with full military honors at 1pm, 14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, NE 68138.
