Richard A.L. Vorthmann, age 96, of Treynor, Iowa passed away October 10, 2017 at Risen Son Christian Village.
He was born February 12, 1921 on the family farm to the late William and Minnie (Heithoff) Vorthmann.
Richard graduated from Treynor High School and was a lifetime farmer. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor and a founding member of the church’s Wedded Band, the Treynor Optimist Club, the Westfair Board and was a township clerk. Richard was involved in the Treynor School reorganization. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and especially school sporting events. His family was honored as a WOW Farm Family of the week, a 4H Farm Family and Richard was featured in the television series Profile of a Farmer. A highlight for Richard was being recognized at the 2016 Iowa State Fair as the Iowan of the Day.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, LuEtta Vorthmann; sisters, Selma Nelson and Aurelia Bruning; 2 infant grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Ann Vorthmann, Roger and Ann Vorthmann; daughter and son-in-law, Lynette and Douglas Steele; grandchildren, Rachel Dyke, Sarah Vandevanter (Adam), Chad Vorthmann (Garin), Deb Vorthmann, Erica Shipman (Josh), Erin Steele, Tyler Steele; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Avery, Brayden, Mason, Ava, Emlyn, Dru, James, Eli and Brock; a host of other family and friends.
Visitation is 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. on Thursday at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is 10:30a.m. on Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor. Interment is in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Treynor Fire and Rescue or St. Paul Lutheran Cherish our Church Fund.
