Richard James Castillo

January 2, 1942 — October 12, 2014

Richard James Castillo, age 72, of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed away October 12, 2014 at his home. He was born January 2, 1942 in Corning, Iowa to the late James & Velda (Goldsmith) Castillo. Richard graduated from Corning Community High School in 1961. After high school, Richard served in the Navy until a back injury forced him to end his enlistment. He was very disappointed because he really enjoyed serving his country. Richard spent almost half of his life working at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Anyone who worked with Richard only had good things to say about him. He was a hard worker and in 35 years he rarely missed a day of work. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed taking his family camping, fishing and boating. Every year he looked forward to going fishing in Minnesota with his brothers. When Richard wanted to get out of the house, he would take a drive around Lake Manawa. He loved spending time with his granddaughters and his granddog. He was preceded in death by his parents James (Connie) Castillo and Velda (Hollis) Perrin; brother-in-law Dean Carothers; nephew Eric Castillo; and step-sister Dorothy Anderson. Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Castillo; daughters, Robyn (John) Robinson and Brenda Castillo (Sean Ford); twin brother Robert (Connie) Castillo and brother Larry Castillo; sister Donna Carothers; two granddaughters: Kristyn and Brittany Robinson; granddog, Molly; sister-in-law, Janice (Bob) Cooper and Esta Marie (Bruce) DuVal; brother-in-law, Larry (Dianne) Peterson; step-brother Don (Judy) Perrin; step-sister Donna (Ed) Ortgies; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Thursday 10:30 am at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the funeral service in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. Interment will be in Carl Cemetery in Adams County. The family will direct memorials.
