Roger L. Rhoades

February 23, 1947 — August 20, 2013

Roger Rog LaVerne Rhoades, 66, of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed away August 20, 2013 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Roger was born February 23, 1947 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Jack and Alta (Cox) Rhoades. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1966. While he held several careers throughout his life his love of carpentry was always part of it. He would lend a helping hand with any project, big or small, to anybody that needed it. He enjoyed hunting deer, pheasant and turkey, any chance he could. Golf was also a great pleasure, but it was mostly for the time spent with his friends while they played. Cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes in football was a weekly event every fall for many, many years. Roger is survived by four children, Lori (Rhoades) Pagel and husband Thomas Pagel of West Jordan, Utah, Chad Rhoades and Kelly Paladino of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Shane Rhoades and wife Monica Rhoades of Callaway, Florida, Jenny Rhoades and Matt Gordon of Council Bluffs, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Taylor & Nicholas Aucutt (Lori), Mathis, Zadiah, & Olivia Rhoades (Shane), and Carley & Alexandria Rhoades (Jenny); sister Jacquelyn Griffith of Council Bluffs, Iowa, brothers Edwin Skeet Griffith and wife Lynn of Santa Clara, California, Danny Rhoades and Vicki Babcock of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Kenny and Carolyn Rhoades of Houston, Texas, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents, Jack and Alta Rhoades, wife Carol (Heiter) Rhoades and three infant children Scott, Wendy and David Rhoades. On behalf of the entire Rhoades family, we wish to express our deep appreciation to all our friends and family who stood with us during his difficult battle with cancer. We indeed appreciate your personal visits, prayers, assistance and valuable advice, and especially to all those who gave their precious time to visit and care for him. A special thank you to Love & Friends Forever. The generous donations given this last year eased a lot of stress for him. We would also like to acknowledge his other family from The Railway Inn. Your kindness and friendship meant the world to him and us. Visitation is Saturday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with a memorial service to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home.
