He was a proud graduate of Silver City High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball with his friends and classmates. Shortly after high school, he joined the Army National Guard and served as a head cook while dedicating himself to farming, a profession he upheld for many years.

Bernard guided his sons with a strong work ethic, instilling in them the values of faith, morals, and integrity. Raised in a Christian home, he emphasized the importance of family, faith, and service.
In addition to his farming pursuits, Bernard served as a bus driver and mechanic for the Treynor School District, while also slaughtering meat at the Treynor Meat Locker. His passions extended beyond his work-he loved his mules, especially riding and breaking them and he spent countless hours on this passion with his family and friends.
One of Bernard's favorite pastimes was participating in trail ride trips to the mountains, where he created lasting memories with his sons and two grandsons, Dustin and Christopher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Dustin Bryant and his great granddaughter, Maren Clemons.
Bernard's life was a testament to faith, family, and love. He was devoted to his wife, Carolyn, with whom he shared 69 wonderful years of marriage.
