Betty Lou (Hibbeler) Schmidt, age 94, of Treynor, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026. She was born to Gustave and Hilda (Gosch) Hibbeler in Omaha, Nebraska on October 2, 1931. She was baptized on December 25, 1931 and confirmed April 21, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran in Millard, Nebraska.
Betty attended school at Millard, graduating in 1949 and received a business certificate from Midland College. She did office work until her marriage to Oswald Schmidt in 1955.
She and "Ozzie" enjoyed dancing and met at Sokol Hall, a night he would jokingly say he should have stayed home. He made many trips to Millard on the dusty graveled highway 92 through South Omaha. Many times, he stopped at the stockyards on Sunday night to get the estimated number of cattle and hogs for the Monday sale.
Ozzie and Betty were married August 27, 1955 on her parents' 25th wedding anniversary in Millard. The wedding dance was held in Treynor. Cans tied to the new '55 Chevy rattled all the way to Treynor. Betty was a town girl but soon learned the work of a farmer's wife. She was a homemaker and was recognized as the West Pottawattamie Farm Bureau Homemaker in 1983. She especially enjoyed baking and sharing the baked goods. She also enjoyed yard work and flowers.
She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Treynor, serving on the Church Council and many committees. She helped organize the "Ministry for the Mentally Handicapped" and served as secretary for 18 years. She and her family were honored and recognized as one of the four families for the 2009 "Salute to Families" celebration given by the Heartland Family Service.
She was proud of her family and enjoyed the grandchildren's activities. Betty and Ozzie were blessed with 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Ozzie and Betty were married 48 years.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ozzie in 2003, brother-in-law Richard Kiger, brother Henry Hibbeler and wife Dottie, half-sister Agnes Luschen and husband Arnold.
Survivors include daughter Patty Platt of Casper, Wyoming; sons Roger (Christina), Robert (Deb) of Treynor and Rodney of Council Bluffs. Six grandchildren, Samuel (Becca) of Moline, Illinois, Eric (Skylar) Platt of Denver, Colorado, Nicole (Chris) Manning of Omaha, Isaac (Abby) of West St. Paul, Minnesota, Adam (Ally) Schmidt of Moline, Illinois, Auston Schmidt of Treynor, sister Shirley Kiger of Frisco, Texas, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Betty will be remembered for her sweet simplicity, a spirit of Christian charity, love for her family and friends, and her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church- Treynor, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church- Treynor, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran Church- Treynor and the Treynor Ambulance.
