Cheryl Ann Haines, age 74, passed away on April 15, 2026, at CHI Health Mercy Hospital. She was born on July 3, 1951, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to the late Floyd and Evelyn (Elswick) Haines.
Cheryl graduated from Carson-Macedonia High School in 1969 and later attended Iowa Western Community College. Cheryl had a lifelong love of music, gardening, reading, and spending time visiting with others. She began teaching piano lessons at just 13 years old and went on to share her gift with more than 1,000 students over the next 60 years. She served for many years as an accompanist at Thomas Jefferson High School and generously offered her musical talents at countless funerals, weddings, school concerts, and community theater productions.
Faith was central to Cheryl's life. She played music for numerous church services throughout the years, most recently serving as organist and accompanist at New Horizon Presbyterian Church for the past 14 years.
Cheryl was known for her warmth and hospitality. No one ever left her home without a hug, a heartfelt conversation, and often a fresh tomato from her garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Marjorie Stueve, Darlene Bogstad, and Duane Haines.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Meyer; Lisa Wilber (Matt); and Chris Meyer (Leslie Hunter); her sister, Lois Bertch; as well as her beloved grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
