Christopher Charles Hallberg

Christopher Charles Hallberg, age 77, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away on September 7, 2026. At the time of his passing, Chris was residing at Chapters Nursing Home.

Chris was born January 13, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Charles Milo and Joyce May Hallberg. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and later served in the United States Army Reserves.

Chris spent more than 30 years working for Union Pacific Railroad before retiring. Over the years, he was also well known for Chris's Gun Shop, where his enjoyment of buying, selling, and talking with people became something many came to associate with him.

Chris had a variety of interests throughout his life. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing chess with his brother, Roy. He also enjoyed motorcycles and sports cars, attending gun shows, and shooting with his best friend, Larry Christiansen. More than anything, Chris enjoyed his friendships and meeting new people. He will be remembered as a caring man who genuinely cared about others.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Milo Hallberg and Joyce May Hallberg; brother, Roy G. Hallberg; sister, Jackie R. Peterson; and nephews, Scott L. Peterson, Adam T. Hallberg, and Roy C. Hallberg.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Barb Hallberg of Chippewa, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Bob Peterson of Austin, Texas; nephews, Tony Peterson of Austin, Texas, and Randy Hallberg of Batavia, Illinois; nieces, Kim Brown of Council Bluffs and Erika Moule of Windsor, Connecticut; great-nieces and great-nephews, Samantha Boyers, Ethan Hallberg, Tyler Brown, and Tricia Gwennap; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Lathan, Lynleigh, Leo, Fox, and Lendrix.

Chris's life was marked by the things he enjoyed, the friendships he made, and the people he cared about. He will be remembered for his caring nature, his love of conversation, and the many connections he made throughout his life.
