Clayton S. "Cactus" Schaner

Clayton S. "Cactus" Schaner, age 89, passed away at CHI Health Mercy Hospital on August 25, 2026.

He was born June 8, 1937, to the late Steve and Clementine (Hoff) Schaner in New Salem, ND. Cactus proudly served his country in the United States Army and was decorated retiree. Cactus took up truck driving after his time with the Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Vestal; brother, Raymond Schaner; sister, Marlene Neil.

Cactus is survived by his children, Clayton Schamer; Jaqueline Lujano (Daniel), and Michael Schaner (Janell); sisters, Genevive Pfleger, Beverly Smith, and Judy Atteberry (Foster); 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2026. Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2026. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Rainbow Post #2. He will be laid to rest in the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery.
