Daniel Abrams, age 91, passed away peacefully at Chapters Living of Council Bluffs on September 13, 2026. He was born April 29, 1935, to Gordon and Hildred (Smith) Abrams in Titusville, Pennsylvania.
Dan lived a life centered around faith, compassion, and caring for others. Throughout his life, he served as a counselor, preacher, and speaker, touching the lives of many through the churches he served, the communities he called home, and the people he met along the way.
Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and was always quick with a one-liner. He was a gifted storyteller who enjoyed sharing stories and making those around him laugh. He had many interests throughout his life, including photography, writing, fly fishing, hunting, bird watching, and golfing. An avid reader, Dan enjoyed keeping up with current events and continued learning throughout his life. He was also a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan from boyhood, making the cardinal a particularly fitting reminder of him.
Above all, Dan will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, a close friend, and a compassionate man who genuinely cared for others. Dan and his wife, Claire, shared 69 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories together.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his sisters, Donna Shoemaker and Joyce Patterson.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Claire Abrams of Council Bluffs; brother, Gordon "Bud" Ellsworth Abrams of New Port Richey, Florida; sister, Sharon Dodge of Phoenix, Arizona; and many other relatives, friends, and people whose lives he touched throughout the years.
A Celebration of Dan's Life will be held on November 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapters Living, 3000 Risen Son Boulevard, Council Bluffs, Iowa. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dan's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dan's memory to For God's Children International, PO Box 434, Council Bluffs, IA 51502, an organization providing hope, dignity, and love in Jesus' name for God's hurting kids; The Arc of Central Virginia, 1508 Bedford Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24504, or a local chapter of The Arc; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
