Danny Danielson

Danny Kay Danielson, age 83, of Council Bluffs passed away May 3, 2024 at Prairie Gate Care Center in Council Bluffs, IA.   Danny was born October 6, 1940, in Clay County, SD to the late Dennis and Magda Danielson. He was baptized December 22, 1940 and confirmed May 15, 1955 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford SD. 

Danny's early education was at Ring Country School, near Alcester, SD.  After spending several years on the family farm, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 - serving 3 years, 1 year of which was in Korea.

Danny married Lois Bell of Hawarden, IA on May 20, 1962. He attended Thermo King truck refrigeration school in Minneapolis. He then worked as a refrigeration mechanic at Thermo King of Omaha and Pacific Fruit Express (Union Pacific Railroad). Danny retired from Carrier Transicold Truck Refrigeration after nearly 30 years of employment.

He was an active member of Timothy Lutheran Church for 59 years and a member of the American Legion Post #2 and served on the Honor Guard for many years. In retirement, Danny loved traveling, socializing with friends and neighbors, and especially enjoyed joining jam sessions to play guitar and sing Johnny Cash songs.

Danny also adored and loved spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his sister Arlene (Kenneth) Koops; brothers Ardell, Elwin (Betty), Robert and Sharon.

Left to celebrate his life are wife, Lois; daughters, Lisa (Paul) Gilmore, Tyleen Tolar; grandchildren Kayla (Adam) Nightser, Nicholas and Sam Gilmore, Calder, Madelyn, Wyatt, Luke and Rachel Tolar and special grandson Nolan Beu; great grandchildren Cooper Weiss, James and Vivian Nightser.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to St. Croix Hospice and Prairie Gate Care Center for their loving care and support the past several months.

Visitation with family will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Monday May 6, 2024.  

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Timothy Lutheran Church, 3112 W. Broadway, Council Bluffs, IA.

Memorials may be designated to Timothy Lutheran Church or American Legion Post #2.
