In Loving Memory of Daphene "Taffy" Lynn Wichman
Daphene "Taffy" Lynn Wichman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 9, 2026, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, surrounded by the love of her husband, children, and family. She was born on September 18, 1960, in Loma Linda, California.
Taffy was the oldest of five girls, a role she embraced with love and responsibility from an early age. She helped raise her younger sisters, setting the tone for what would become her life's calling: caring for others. Whether by blood or by choice, if you knew Taffy, you knew you always had someone in your corner.
Her children were the center of her world. She brought 4 children into this world, Ronald, Ryan, Robin, and finally her daughter, Raelyn. She worked tirelessly to provide for them, holding multiple jobs throughout the years, including as a bank teller and a bookkeeper for the Keno Club, always making sure there was food on the table and love in their home.
In 1998, Taffy began her career with the United States Postal Service. Through dedication, and an unmatched work ethic, she rose to become Postmaster of Missouri Valley, Iowa, where she retired in 2020, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and friendships that lasted far beyond her career.
In 2010, she met the love of her life, Daniel Wichman. They married on June 13, 2014, beginning a beautiful chapter filled with laughter, companionship, and unconditional love. Through every health battle she faced, Daniel never left her side. He loved her wholeheartedly, cared for her faithfully, and reminded her every day just how cherished she was.
While Taffy was an incredible wife and mother, many knew her simply as "Mom." She opened her heart and home to nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends, and anyone who needed love and guidance. She never hesitated to help someone in need, and her kindness left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, spoiling them whenever she could, and reminding each one just how deeply they were loved. Her love for them knew no limits.
Taffy had a smile that could brighten any room and a laugh that made everyone around her smile too. She had a way of making people feel welcome, accepted, and loved exactly as they were. She was the heart of her family-the one everyone called, leaned on, celebrated with, and found comfort in. Her absence leaves an immeasurable void, but the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in every life she touched.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, and a younger sister.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Wichman; her children, Ron Tuff, Ryan Tuff (Jackie), Robin Merryweather (Cesia), and Raelyn Hurley (Josh); Matt (Chelsie) Wichman, and LeAnne (Josh) Wagner, her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who were blessed to know and love her.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through the family she built, the lives she touched, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. We will miss her every single day, but we will carry her laughter, her strength, and her love with us forever.
Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
