David L. Knott, of Council Bluffs, IA, passed away on July 26, 2024.
He was born August 16, 1951, to Dr. James and Margaret (Sluyter) Knott in Omaha, Nebraska.
David was a proud alumnus of Wentworth Military Academy and Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, where he worked nights at a local mortuary in exchange for room and board. He graduated from Dallas Mortuary School with a bachelor's degree in Embalming & Funeral Directing.
After completing his education, David worked at Meyers Funeral Home and then spent over 15 years at Cutlers Funeral Home. Later in life, he pursued several trade licenses and spent many years managing a family-owned property in Council Bluffs.
David was a simple man who always put his family and friends first. He cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his parents. A devoted grandfather, who could always be found cheering in the stands at his grandchildren's games and events. An avid dancer, David and his wife Kathy were well-known at Bushwhackers, where they spent countless hours dancing the night away. From a young age, David was fascinated with classic cars and hot rods and loved tinkering in the garage. Many around town recognized him by some version of personalized plates such as "LETSDNC." David also had a love for horses and horseback riding with his wife, Kathy. Oh, and how he couldn't resist a gourmet meal, in fact he was known by name at Taco Bell! It was these things that brought David joy in life and left all of us with so many memories.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret L. Knott, and his grandson, Carter James Kelly.
He is survived by his father, Dr. James L. Knott; his brother, Dr. James R. Knott (Stella); his wife, Kathleen Knott; his son, Murphy Knott (Dendree); his daughters, Maren Canon (Tim) and Megan Kelly (Jeff); and his grandchildren, Madalyn Aegerter, Zachary Canon, Presley Canon, Haley Kelly, Jordyn Kelly, and Oliver Kelly.
We will forever miss this amazing man, everything he taught us, and the countless memories we will always cherish.
A casual visitation with friends and family will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. A Private Burial service will take place at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
