Debra Sue Bond

Debra Sue Bond, age 72, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, with her beloved husband and grandson by her side. Deb was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and dear friend who dedicated her life to caring for and serving those around her.

Debbie was born on July 14, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Paul and Beverly (Niemann) Philippe. She lived a life rooted in faith, compassion, kindness, and an unwavering love for her family. Her gentle spirit, selfless service, and warm heart touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Raised in Syracuse, Nebraska, Deb learned the values of honesty, responsibility, and hard work from an early age. Those principles shaped the woman she would become and remained evident throughout her life. She developed a strong faith in Jesus Christ as a young woman, a faith that became the foundation of her life and guided her through both joyful and difficult seasons.

While attending Syracuse High School, Deb met the love of her life, Roger Bond. Their relationship grew through years of friendship, letters, and shared faith, and they were married on December 20, 1973, in the Ogden Utah Temple. Together, they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and service, sharing more than 52 wonderful years of marriage.

Deb devoted 45 years to the nursing profession, compassionately caring for countless patients across many specialties, and spent her favorite years of her career working in labor and delivery. Although she found great fulfillment in nursing, she often said her greatest and most rewarding calling was being a wife and mother. She and Roger were blessed with six children, whom she loved wholeheartedly and supported through every stage of life. Her greatest joy later became her grandchildren and, most recently, the birth of her first great-grandchild.

Debra faithfully served in various church callings throughout her life and found great joy in serving in the temple alongside her husband. She also loved serving others through her many acts of kindness, including teaching swimming lessons to children with special needs, volunteering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Open Door Mission, and was always willing to help those in need. Caring for others was simply part of who she was.

Deb is survived by her devoted husband, Roger; her mother Beverly Phillipe, her children, Jessica (Rich), Jennifer (Jerry), Justin (Erin), Jonathan (Laura), and Joanna (Steve); her cherished grandchildren and great-grandson; her siblings, Christine and Jeff; and many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbors whose lives were enriched by knowing her. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Philippe; her infant son, Joshua; her daughter, Julia; her granddaughters, Lauren Moyle and Skarlett Shively; her grandparents, Robert and Caroline Niemann; her in-laws, Otis and Maxine Bond; her aunt Gloria Eckert; and her uncle Jack Niemann.

Debbie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, unwavering faith, and selfless dedication to caring for others. Whether as a nurse, volunteer, wife, mother, grandmother, or friend, she touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, and quiet example. While her family mourns her passing, they find peace in knowing she has been joyfully reunited with loved ones who went before her and has returned to her Heavenly Father. Her legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home (1221 N 16th St, Council Bluffs, IA). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2303 Butler Street, Council Bluffs, IA). Interment will follow immediately after the service at Garner Township Cemetery (1372 Jennings Ave, Council Bluffs, IA). The family will direct memorials in Debra's honor.
