Duane Bates

Duane O. Bates, age 91 years, 9 months, 13 days, passed away peacefully at his home on August 13, 2023.

He was born October 31, 1931 to the late Burt and Margaret (Peck) Bates in Griswold, IA. Duane graduated from Oakland High School. After graduation, he went into the Army in 1952 and served in Korea until being discharged in 1954. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years, and retired as a lead carpenter at Mercy Hospital, after 48 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert, Jimmy, Floyd, Donnie, Richard, Evelyn, Anna Bell, and Juanita; son-in-law, John Saunders.

Duane is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Bates; children, Tracy Saunders, William Shrader (Lori), Brian (Kris) Bates, and Douglas (Linda) Bates; brother, Norman (Carole) Bates, Bonnie Allen, and Shirley (Gordon) Frizzell; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, August 18, 2023.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, August 18, 2023. Interment is in Garner Township Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Eastside Christian Church.
