Gregg Thomas Porter

Gregg Thomas Porter, 73, of Malvern, Iowa

Gregg Thomas Porter was born on August 24, 1948 to Ernest and Gretchen Porter in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up, attended school and graduated with a high school diploma in Des Moines.

After high school he worked as a lab assistant in the human biology lab of the university in Des Moines for several years. While working at the university, he met the love of his life, Mary Sheldahl, and were soon married.

After several years at the university, he was able to persue his dream of becoming an auto body and repair tech. After working in his career for a few years, Mary gave birth to their first child, Sara Ann. Three short years later, Mary gave birth to their second daughter, Kari Lynn.

A couple years later, Gregg suffered a heart attack which placed him on disability, which no longer allowed him to work.

After a few short moves, over the next two years, Gregg moved his family to Malvern, Iowa where they called home.

Gregg kept himself busy by volunteering at the Nishna Cottage for many years. Gregg enjoyed tinkering on vehicles, watching older tv shows, spending time with his children, grandchildren and his loving pet.

In February 2021, due to declining health conditions, Gregg and Mary moved to Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, Iowa.

After a bad case of pneumonia, Gregg slipped into organ failure and on December 31, 2021, Gregg Thomas Porter passed away at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa. Gregg is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Gretchen Porter.

Gregg is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Porter of Tabor, Iowa. Sister Diane Jenner, her husband (South Carolina), two nephews (Colorado). Daughter Sara Ann Porter (Council Bluffs) her fiance Joe Palmer, granddaughters, Paige, Paiden and Pailey. Daughter Kari Lynn Bartholomew (Tabor) her husband Drew Bartholomew, grandsons, Justin and Andrew and granddaughter Everlee. And their Fur baby, Pumpkin.

There will be a private interment at a later date.
