Gregory Nels Andersen, age 72, passed away on April 8, 2026. A man of logic, a seeker of stars, and a devoted father, Greg lived a life that spanned the distance between Earth's binary code and the mysteries of the heavens.
The Logical Mind
Greg spent the majority of his professional life as an Application Developer for Lozier Corporation . He was a man who appreciated structure and clarity-a "logical" man in every sense of the word. It is fitting that he found a reflection of his own journey in Supertramp's "The Logical Song." He understood the transition from the simple world of youth to the complex, clinical world of adulthood, and spent his later years reclaiming the wonder and the "questions too deep" that logic alone couldn't answer.
500,000 Miles of Wonder
Upon his retirement, Greg didn't settle down; he headed out. He logged over half a million miles on the American road, driven by a deep love for this country's beauty and a quest for the truth beyond our atmosphere. As the Iowa State Director for MUFON , Greg was a serious investigator of the unexplained. As the lyrics of Styx's "Come Sail Away" suggest, Greg was always looking toward the "gathering of angels" and the "ships in the sky." Yet, for all the miles he traveled and the phenomena he studied, his most cherished moments were those spent in the passenger seat or behind the wheel with his son, Gregory Nels Andersen II . Those half-million miles weren't just a pursuit of the unknown-they were a long, beautiful conversation between a father and a son that Greg treasured above all else.
A Faith Grounded in Grace
Greg was a long-standing and active member of Wildewood Christian Church . He was deeply reflective about his own life and salvation, finding a profound connection to Romans VII . He identified with the honest struggle described by the Apostle Paul-the tension between our human nature and our spiritual calling. Greg knew he wasn't perfect, but he knew he was saved, and he found his peace in the grace that transcends our human "logic." He was also a dedicated supporter of first responders , honoring those who stand on the front lines of our communities.
His Final Charge to Us
Greg didn't want us to worry about him; he knew exactly where he was going. He left us with three clear missions:
1. Pursue the Truth: Look at the world and the universe with eyes wide open.
2. Share the News: Do not be shy in sharing the Good News of the Gospel.
3. Live in Peace: Simply, and truly, get along with one another.
Family and Service
Gregory is survived by his son and best friend, Gregory Nels Andersen II ; his step-siblings, Brian Andersen (Cheryl) , Andrea Taylor , and Cindy Mohatt ; his two ex-wives, Becky and Trish, and a community of friends, co-workers, and fellow seekers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Betty Lee (Wejby) Andersen.
