James Wilson Franklin

James "Jim" Wilson Franklin, age 93, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026.

Born on July 5, 1933 in Lithium, Missouri, Jim was the child of Wilson and Bessie Franklin. Over the course of his long and remarkable life, he was known for his ability to fix anything, his love for gardening, his passion for a yard sale, and the junk store. He was also known for his beloved shop where he looked forward to having visitors stop by to tell stories with a coffee cup waiting for them. He loved riding his Harley motorcycles, riding into his late 80s.

Jim worked as Chief Pilot for Union Pacific Railroad, where he was respected for his work ethic, his loyalty, and his mechanical ability. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, visiting Sol's and Retail Rebel, spending time at the farm, and was especially proud of fixing things for friends and family. Jim spent many years in Perryville, Missouri before moving his family to California for a short time, then to the Council Bluffs area. He introduced his family to fishing on an annual trip to Lake Clitherall, MN. A lifetime of memories were made at Bonnie Beach.

He is survived by daughter Vicki (Dave) McCallan, Son Tom (Janet) Franklin, daughter Pam (Jeff) Thompson, Son Bob (Deb) Franklin, sibling Susan (Jerry) Hornberger, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces and nephews, as well as cherished friends. He was preceded in death by parents, his late wife Betty Ann Franklin, sisters Loretta Vernon and Darline Bock, brother Joe Franklin, and special friends.

A visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday September 25 at 11:30 at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home, Friends and loved ones are invited to attend and share memories. Remarks and memories shared at 12:30 with a luncheon to follow. Burial will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery.

The family extends their gratitude to St. Croix Hospice, and numerous friends for their compassion and support. The family will direct memorials in Jim's honor.

Jim's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
