James L. Knott, M.D., age 100, passed away peacefully at Midlands Living Center on July 25, 2026.
He was born June 21, 1926, to the late Roy and Lillian (Peterson) Knott in Council Bluffs, IA. Dr. Knott graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Creighton Medical School. Dr. Knott proudly served his country in the United States Navy, as a Corpsman and was a well-respected physician. He operated his practice in Council Bluffs for many years. In addition to his private practice, he was the longtime physician at Iowa School for the Deaf. He was a past member of Rotary and Bookfellows and was a long-time distinguished member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians and the Iowa Medical Society. Dr. Knott was also honored as a member of the TJ Hall of Fame. He and his late wife, Margaret, were very involved with the Dodge House for many years. Outside of his practice and civic contributions, Dr. Knott loved to garden, fish, travel and especially dance.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Knott; son, David Knott; brother, Dr. Norman Knott Sr.; granddaughter, Mary E. Knott, DVM; great grandson, Carter James Kelly.
Dr, Knott is survived by his sons, Dr. James R. Knott and his wife, Stella, Paul Knott and his wife, Kathryn; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Knott; grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Open visitation will be held from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM with family present from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, August 02, 2026.
Private graveside service with military honors will take place at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
